Navis Consulting ‘links in’ with UTC Portsmouth

Ross Sanderson, Navis Consulting’s Operations Director, visited UTC Portsmouth last Thursday to run some of their STEM students through an introduction to LinkedIn.

A new type of college

UTC Portsmouth provides a specialist STEM curriculum to young people aged 14-19 years old to help meet the growing demands of employers across the region. Similarly to Navis, the college is passionate about the advancement of science, technology, engineering and maths subjects. UTC offers an outstanding academic and technical learning environment.

Knowledge sharing

We find that graduates are often unfamiliar with the professional networking platform LinkedIn, not having needed to use it before. But today, this is an essential pre-step to getting on the first rung of the career ladder.

For recruiters, LinkedIn is one of the most important tools at our disposal, using it day in, day out. We’re therefore very familiar with how to get the best out of the platform so wanted to share this knowledge and experience with the students to prepare and help them get ready for the world of work.

Through Alex Blandford, Assistant Principal of UTC Portsmouth, Ross took 40 students across years 10-13 through their paces. They created their LinkedIn accounts and learned how to set up effective profiles and begin to navigate the platform. Ross was impressed with the engagement from the students and saw a great crop of STEM enthusiasts and future engineers coming through the college.

It was great to spend some time with the UTC Portsmouth’s next generation of engineers to show them how to set up and use a LinkedIn account. The future is bright!”
