Recruiter takes on London Marathon to raise funds for Sailors’ Society
On Sunday 2 October 2022, Neil will be taking on (and smashing!) the TCS London Marathon on behalf of Navis Consulting.
Ahead of the big race, Neil will be training every week with the hope of raising funds and awareness for Sailors’ Society. Neil often runs half marathons in his spare time and will be increasing this distance over the next few months to make sure he is ready for it.
For 200 years, Sailors’ Society has supported seafarers, their families and maritime communities. They are the oldest maritime charity in the world, dedicated to caring for merchant seafarers through chaplaincy and spiritual guidance to welfare support, access to education and financial help for those in desperate need. Their Chaplains and ship visitors have a presence in more than 80 ports around the world, with community projects and services spanning 21 countries.

Having recruited within the Maritime industry for almost 10 years, the pivotal role of seafarers all around the world was a massive eye opener for me when I first joined the industry. Seafarers deliver a fundamental role in many of the day-to-day things we take for granted. The vast majority of consumer goods that that we enjoy are transported from A to B via the sea. Yet the role of the seafarer is often a thankless job and there are way too many examples of seafarers having to deal with appalling work conditions whilst working in extremely dangerous environments.
Sailors’ Society helps to provide front line support to many seafarers facing these adversities, providing both practical and emotional support to approximately 23,000 seafarers each month. The charity has also been at the forefront of helping seafarers affected by the crisis in Ukraine; a nation with a huge maritime community whose suffering has shocked us all this year.
The great work that Sailors’ Society does is an inspiration, and it is an honour to represent them whilst running this year’s London Marathon.
Together we can help change lives across the world by helping to fund the wide spectrum of services on offer – from chaplaincy and spiritual guidance to welfare support, access to education and financial help for those in desperate need. This can provide life-changing support to many of the men and women who haven’t set foot on dry land for months.
