2nd Engineer – AHV

THE ROLE

The Ships Second Engineer has responsibility for taking all necessary actions for safety, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of the ship under the direction of the Chief Engineer.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe operation and maintenance of the ship’s machinery.
  • Maintenance of Engine Room safety equipment
  • Deputise for Chief Engineer as required testing stand-by systems on a regular basis and in accordance with Company and regulatory procedures.
  • Fulfil requirements as required under the Planned Maintenance schedule
  • Bunker operations with Chief Engineer
  • Maintenance of Counter Pollution and Deck equipment as appropriate
  • Engine room watch keeper Investigating non-conformances and applying corrective action as agreed with the Master
  • Comply with pollution prevention requirements
  • Operate and deploy counter pollution equipment as required
  • Form part of the vessels Emergency team
  • Take control of Engine room fire parties

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to ensure vessel plant and equipment can be used efficiently, in a safe and pollution free manner.
  • Clear communication and good command of English both spoken and written.
  • Good IT skills/Microsoft Office
  • Work prioritisation and planning, taking into account safe systems of work.
  • Ability to implement Company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to take initiative to prevent and/or minimise defects

CERTIFICATION

  • 2nd Engineer III/2 Unrestricted
  • Personal survival techniques
  • Advanced fire fighting
  • Medical first aid on board
  • Personal safety and social responsibilities
  • Proficiency in designated security duties
  • Proficiency in survival craft and rescue boats
  • Unrestricted ENG1 Medical Certificate
