I am working with a large telecommunications company in London and they need a Land Cable Engineer to join the team.

There will be a lot of travel in this position to worldwide sites around 40-50% of the time depending on the projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementation of site surveys, including earth resistivity measurements
  • Engineering design of land cable and system earth installation requirements
  • Production of drawings for installation, including land route diagrams
  • Identification of suitable resources, and local subcontract management
  • Fibre splicing, jointing, and testing of land cable, beach joints and system earths
  • Unrepeatered system testing, both on land and at sea
  • Cable termination to ASN terminal station equipment
  • Project resource planning, cost efficiency, and liaison with Customer representative
  • Preparing site specific scopes of work, and their associated procedures
  • Completing H&S risk assessments, site survey, on site and as-built reporting
  • Liaising with the ASN’s Calais cable factory, Purchasing, Project Management and Logistics Teams

Experience / Qualifications

  • Knowledge of fibre optics and electrics
  • 2 years or more relevant hands-on work experience with preferably an engineering background
  • Good communication skills, and dedication to collaborative work
  • Project Management, Problem-solving skills, and a familiarity with basic IT packages
  • Training will be provided for: ASN land-based jointing, cable termination, and working in confined spaces
  • Self-motivated, flexible individual, excited by the challenge of installing fibre optic cable for the world’s leading submarine telecommunications company.

This person should have trunk network/large exchange experience on big projects and not FTTP.

Applicants must have an existing right to live and work in the UK and live within a commutable distance to London or be prepared to relocate at own expense.
