Marine Carpenter- Permanent- Maine- £ Competitive

Navis Consulting have an opportunity for an individual with extensive carpentry experience. This role is aimed at an individual that enjoys working alongside a well oiled team but also has the ability to work alone under pressure. You will be working to a very high standard completing complex joinery. All round knowledge of boat building skill sets is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transfer drawings to marine plywood and other materials and marking layouts
  • Strong skill sets in using table and chop saws and other power tools to make accurate cuts
  • Able to read and understand drawings/blueprints
  • Fault finding for leaks and any imperfection and recommend appropriate repair
  • Layout, cut and assemble parts
  • Able to install custom parts such as hatches, marine hardware, metal trim, windows, doors, seats, etc.
  • Apply sealant to windshield, windows, etc. and understand the materials needed to secure in place
  • Good knowledge of woodworking joints used in marine industry
  • Skill sets in epoxies and vinylester resins and other adhesives to bond parts and complete fiberglass repairs
  • Must meet schedules and budgeting requirements
  • Understanding of yachting terminology
  • Confident in mathematics
  • Follow all health and safety and quality standards and regulations keeping all areas clean and safe to work
  • Complete other duties if necessary

Experience required:

  • Degree (GED) required with course work in wood and metals
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Operation of tape measure, square, hand saw, hand plane, table saw, and chop saw, planer, joiner, and saw, shaper, surface sander, router, vacuum pumps, and inverted router
  • At least 3 years carpentry experience, plus 2-5 years boat building
  • Experience and knowledge of types of wood, finish cabinetry attributes and adhesives
