Port Agency Manager – Permanent – Portsmouth – Competitive package

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business and be involved in the set up of a new branch office.

The role is based in Portsmouth but offers Hybrid working. Also, covers Southampton and west to Portland.

The role holder will be responsible for the management of the port agency department providing a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week rostered on-call service to ensure the safe and smooth turnaround of all appointed vessels within the jurisdiction of the port office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure excellent ships agency services are rendered to all customers.
  • Ensure a smooth, quick turnaround of vessels, keeping all relevant parties advised at all times.
  • Perform all tasks that relate to the port agency function including boarding vessels.
  • Ensure compliance with group QHSSE objectives.
  • Responsible for the P&L of the department by maximising revenue streams and cash flow and aggressively managing costs and overheads.
  • Attend regular meetings with ports, terminal and suppliers.
  • Identify, recognize and secure new business opportunities.

Experience Required:

  • Excellent working knowledge of Port Operations, Shipping and Port Agency
  • Experience of working in a customer facing role in the shipping / maritime industry
  • Strong communicator both written and verbal
  • Ability to work calmly and with a positive attitude under pressure
  • Previous management experience within a shipping agency
  • Able to effectively manage own work and work unsupervised
  • Must have the right to work in the UK
